Don't answer or call back. I got a voice mail saying the IRS was filing a law suit against me, I was concerned and called the number back. An Indian man answered the phone, which immediately raised my suspicions. I informed him of the voice mail I got and asked for a file number, and saying I didn't have one he asked for my name which I gave, and he said he would put Mt on hold and try to pull up the information. After thinking I was out on hold, I proceeded to say to myself "this isn't the [***] IRS, I know it's not". The Indian man immediately picked the phone back up and said "what did you just say?", surprised and with a bit of attitude, I responded, "I didn't say anything to you", to which he responded, "I heard what you said, this isn't the [***] IRS" and immediately started yelling nonsense about what he could do to me and blah blah blah, so I hung up and called my father to see if he could help me figure out what was going on. Not 30 seconds after I hung up, I got a call from a restricted number, that I am assuming was the Indian man calling back. The IRS will not contact you by phone unless you have ano ongoing problem with them that has previously been handled over the phone. They will contact you by mail, or have you arrested if need be, before contacting you in any other way. Block this number.
