Caller ID says "Springfield MA". They leave no message.
I call back after hours (using *67 to block my number). I hear the following, "hello, and thank you for your call. We're sorry that no one is currently available to speak with you at this time. We are assisting other patrons, away from our desk, or we may be currently closed. If you would like to try again at another time, our offices are open Monday through Friday from 9 AM to 9 PM eastern standard time. Our weekend hours are Saturday 9 AM to 9 PM and Sunday 11 AM to 7 PM. At certain times of the year we may remain open until 11 PM eastern standard time. To speak directly to a customer service representative, please, call back during these times. Your call is very important to us. In order to help us serve you better, we greatly appreciate any feedback you can provide. If you're calling to request that you be placed on our Do-Not-Call list, please, take a moment to leave a detailed message along with your name, complete address and phone number with area code. Thank you very much. Please, leave your message after the tone. When done, hang up or press the pound key." (I never place my name on the DNC list as it can actually make things worse).
So they spoof their caller ID, and they fail to identify themselves on their outgoing message. I have heard this message before; it was associated with either very scummy "charities" or energy scams. Smells like a SCAM.
The latest rounds of SCAM charities is "National Patrolmens Fund" (NO SUCH CHARITY), American Heart Association and probably, because today is Veteran's Day, some fake phony veterans' 'charity'.
Called yesterday (11/13), leaving no message. Caller ID showed strange "name" (V1131920490014373153) and "SPRINGFLD, MA" as the location. An obvious scam number designed to circumvent my call blocker; now blocked for good.
Great post, Steve - thanks. It's very telling that to get on their do-not-call list they want you to leave your name, address, and phone number when just the phone number should be sufficient. They just want more info on you.
