They called me yesterday, and 2 times already today, saying they need to hear from me or my attorney today. Where do these people come up with this crap.
I have been keeping their voicemail recordings. They are all the same--very garbled in the beginning where I can't make out who they identify themselves as being. Eventually, they ask me to contact them or have my attorney contact them. I never called them because there is nothing in my history or financial matters that warrant anyone calling me with such a request. I have nothing to fear from them but they are a nuisance as the phone they call on is loud and in a hallway.
These people also called me on 1/28 and 1/29/16 indicating that I needed to speak with my lawyer. When I asked about what it was regarding, they were very hesitant and could not provide me with any information. I knew I had not incurred bill/ cost and starting doing research. In googling the phone number, I realized it was a scam/fraud.
There is no need to do "research". If they talked to you, then they are required by law to do the following, and failing that it proves that they are crooks trying to steal money:
Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes. The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.

Hey Wolfman, is there a statute of limitations on these alleged debts companies like this are trying to collect? I have read comments from posters that these scammers are trying to collect on "debt" that is 4-5 years old.
