It is a scam. The IRS would never call like that. You would get notices, etc. before any action would be taken. They file liens. You would have to be a big time tax evader for them to take legal action.
Some Indian guy saying me or my attorney of record better call right away. "Don't try to ignore this message" and "legal action will take place right away". Thick accent and his name is supposed to be Edward Marshall. What a joke. I wish he'd answer the call back so I could set him up for the Feds.

Received 3 messages in a row, intimidating middle-eastern-sounding male, calling himself "Jonathan Smith, identifying himself as an IRS investigator, regarding deficiency in income tax. A few years ago I received such calls from the same sort of individual, threatening to do unspeakable things to family members, threatening loss of job, etc. At that time this person was trying to collect on a payday loan. That proved to be criminal/scam activity.
I got the call yesterday. They called 4 times. I reported it to the IRS this morning. I use to work for the IRS so I knew it was a hoax. It the IRS calls you, they will identify themselves and give you a badge number.
