No need to check. Just follow the very simple basic rule. If at ANY time - ANY. You are asked to send money, or gifts - it's a scam. It could be any reason, but the key here is being asked for money. Sick kids, hospital, robbed, broke car. Anything. That's all you need to know. The occupation is suspicious right off.

That same person is befriending me now, saying the same things and yes..copy pasting nice words! He even sends me sweet texts! Good thing i came across this link and read your posts before i even fall deeper into this scam. So now that we know, it's either we outsmart him in any way we can, or just stop communicating with him. Thank you God for not letting us become victims of this scammer.
I was also scammed. I reported them to the police and I found out that this is a group of scammers in Malaysia using stolen passports to claim the money. According to the police, one of the girl already made a report of her passport stolen and then found out that its being used to scam people.
I hope the government will do something about this and investigate it further.
