I received a call from this number claiming to be from the IRS. The person had a heavy accent and was nearly incomprehensible - he "required my attorney information because there was an investigation about a mistake in my tax return calculations". I became suspicious and asked for a call back number. He told me to call "Michael Carter" at 415 251 3769. I did a reverse lookup on that number and discovered a long comment string reporting that it was a scam. It appears the same group is branching out into new numbers as that number got busted.
By the way, if the IRS is investigating anybody, they send paper documentation. No one from IRS will call unless there was already an ongoing conversation AFTER the paper documentation was served.
Beware of this call from "mike" or anyone from this number. It is currently being investigated by several Texas law enforcement. The internal revenue service does not call themselves "IRS". Contact your local police department to file appropriate charges.
