I recd this message today and I felt this is a scam. IRS doesn't call any one. If there is any issues with your tax they will send you an email. Just ignore and enter this number into do not call list.
So I received the same call very heavy accent could barely understand. I called the woman (with a thick accent) explained to me that there was tax descrepancy and that because I failed to reply to the 2 certified letters they sent there was now a warrant for my arrest. She read me my rights through an affidavit, I started to question things she told me my address where things were delivered and it was my actual address, She told me to get a tax laywer and when I started pushing she hung up on me. I called back and spoke to a gentleman who had an accent but was very understandable. He reviewed everything again and told me to contact a tax lawyer as tomorrow I would be served papers and there would be a warrant for my arrest in there, and I needed to follow the instructions when I got the package. When I said do I need to be home for this they told me if I wasn't the sheriff's department would call me. I called my accountant and she said the IRS would NEVER call anyone. She instructed we report to the Treasury Inspector General and our local police. The police officer confirmed the IRS would NEVER call.
I am floored I fell for it, but because they weren't asking for money or personal information I didn't think it was a scam at the time. I now see all the red flags, but at the time I couldn't.
