Scam, scam, scam. They call saying the taxpayer owes money, and if you respond, they'll keep calling and insisting that they can pay by bank or credit card.
They scammed a friend of mine out of 1200.00. The told her they were calling from the IRS, and she owes 5000.00. She told them she didn't have that kind of money but she had 1200 and they said they would settle for that. The IRS doesn't settle for anything.
Just got called and was told I had 1/2 hour to pay $5,998.54 or a warrant would be sent out for my arrest. I have never ever missed payments on anything. I googled the number while talking and saw these helpful posts. Thank you
They called my mother this morning with the similar threat of arrest. She calls me on a 3-way. He asked if "I had $5000 in my account." I said no, "let me go to the bank so they can wire it." He said no, if he didn't get it in an half hour, they will come down for an arrest. Told him this doesn't make sense. Where in California can you get to a bank and in line within one half hour? I asked for an account for the bank. He insist on the cash.
Went to the internet and found these comments. Of course, my elderly mother is frantic and demanding money. When she calms down, I'm going to ask her if she gave them her SSN as verification. Of course the IRS is useless, because you try calling them and get the recorded options for "tax returns and please call back on Wednesday."
just received a call from 415-251-9049 demand $4,988.54. they said if I don't come up with the money within 1 hour, a police will come and arrest me. I got scared first time, and called my boss so I can go home and wire the money to them as instructed at the Wallgreen Pharmacy. my boss said is a scam. I also verified with the IRS, and find out that the IRS never demand any payment within 1 hour, and threaten you of jail time or revoke your driver license. so if you get a call, just figure out the way to play along with them, you might get a laugh out of it....have fun...
