You were told wrong.  If your call was about an alleged debt, then debt is civil, not criminal.  If you really owe money to a company, you may be sued, but not arrested or jailed.

Follow the steps in what you need to know. A legitimate debt collector agency should not have a problem with giving you a real business name and address you can google and verify via google street view, BBB etc.

Caller id said "I" and it rang three times and did not go into voicemail.

"I" just called at 8:15am. I did not answer. After reading the other posted information I remember being contacted 3 years ago by a company saying that I had an unpaid debt from 1998. I laughed and demanded proof. They hung up and called later. I did my homework and asked when the debt happened. I then reminded them about the STATUTE OF LIMITATIONS ON DEBT and told them that if I hear from them again that I would contact my cousin who is a lawyer and sue them for harassment. I have not heard a word for over 3 years.Turns out that companies buy old debt information and use it to punk people into paying old debts that they don't owe anymore. What they don't want you to know is that there is a   "STATUTE OF LIMITATIONS ON DEBT." Look up that term and you will know how the laws work. I have call block so next time they call they will hear 1 ring and then three very loud horn like sounds before they are hung up on. Whenever I hear my phone ring ONE TIME ONLY it makes me smile because I know a telemarketer has just been sound blasted and hung up on. Have Fun!
