When I wanted to apply for US citizenship I mistakenly landed on a website that charged to type out the application for $200 or something like that. After a year later they called me today claiming to be US Immigration and asked for my income taxes. I told the lady that I already applied, that it all all went through and have been officially a citizen for 6 months now. They are scam artists trying to make a buck on folks who don't quite understand the language yet.
The same happened to me! I cannot believe I did not realize it was not really the true USCIS website! Of course I closed the window that asked for money, but unfortunately I had written my email address and phone number first... Countless calls and emails followed, and one person "Caroline" tried to convince me on the phone yesterday (I picked up out of curiosity) that she would even waiver part or all of the $199 fee, if only I gave her a credit or debit card number. That sounded fishy to me, so I said NO, hung up, and blocked the number. I wonder if she will call again.
