These bad guys called at 9:42am DST. I said hello. They hung up without speaking. I called back immediately. I got a recording that said the number was "disconnected or no longer in service". If I catch these people, they will pay.
A call was placed to our business from this phone number. The caller claimed to be from "your local yellow pages" and proceeded to ask to "verify" our contact information...address, etc. During the call, they asked several yes or no questions to which the answer was yes.
From past experience, I suspect that this call was a scam. They record the person saying "yes" to a bunch of questions, then they later edit the yes responses into an audio recording that isn't the actual conversation. The end result is a conversation that goes like this:
You agree that you are ordering website services in the amount of $29.99 per month.
Yes.
You understand that these charges will be added to your local phone bill.
Yes.
You agree that you are authorized to make decisions concerning your company's phone service.
Yes.
Sound ridiculous? Well, it's happened before here, and I'm betting money that this is what is going on now, especially since this isn't really a working number that these people are calling from.
