Rings 3 times, no message. I blocked my CID and called the number back, it is a disconnected number. This number is "spoof"... probably a telemarket call.
This guy has called every day for the past four days. I usually don't answer, but I did today. He said his name is Alan and he's a contractor looking for work. I told him I wasn't interested and hung up. Ten bucks says he's dumb enough to try it again!
Claims to be a contractor named Alan Lambert looking for work. I said we don't need any work done and asked how he got the number. He said, "I just going through the phone book. Sorry" and hung up.
Get calls from this company every day. Apparently its an autodialer cause no one ever says hello -- just dead air -- and I'm not gonna wait until a telemarketer is available to speak. And yes when you call the number, you get a message that it's been disconnected.
I contacted AT&T Annoyance Calls --- they confirmed that the calls were being made from a computer autodialer and said that it was a telemarketer. Their suggestion was to put my number on the Do-Not-Call Registry 1-888-382-1222. It takes 30 days to take effect so I'll still get calls from them for the next 30 days.
The other option is to badger our elected officials to prohibit telemarketers from blocking their caller id or using fake disconnected messages --- that way they could be contacted directly and told to cease and desist. Any legitimate telemarketer wouldn't stoop to such tactics anyway and the politicians would be doing us a favor by eliminating the riff-raff.
