The IRS and other government agencies have issued a FRAUD ALERT in response to this as well as many other telephone/internet scams recently.
As stated above, The IRS will not contact you by telephone. Don't answer, Don't respond. Report it to the TIGTA and other appropriate agencies
Got a call that went to vm. It was an electronic voice claiming to be Lauren Matthews from the IRS with an urgent matter that requires an immediate call back to 415-687-8887. "Smelled" like some kind of weird scam.. maybe they've attached that number to a fee service that will put a charge on your phone bill for calling that number... deleted the message. If the IRS has dreamed up some frivolous matter to address then they can come knocking at my door not send me a pre-recorded message.
This number 415-689-8887 has called me twice. Robot voice "Lauren Mathews" called and left a message. I called back and it was a complete scam, I argued with the hindu guy and ended hanging up on him. Total jerk!
