I lost $400! They left me a voicemail and I called back on this number. First thing they asked was my case number. I said I didn't know. The unfortunately I gave her my SSN to pull the account. She correctly did it and came back with my details.They start with asking for your lawyer's number as if I am calling back with an attorney. When I am shocked they read out the affidavit that is going to be filed against me and the charges will be registered in the next 1/2 hr unless it is paid in full immediately. They ask a huge amount. The whole coversation is done in an authoritative voice /accent you would expect from a govt agency like IRS. There was no scope for suspicion. She made it look like everything now is in emergency and there is no time to leisurely discuss matters since the charges are criminal and Shreiff will come and arrrest. She made it look like they were calling to advise & hire a lawyer and not about asking money though the option was given to settle if money was paid immediately. When she learnt that my ATM cards can not draw more than $400 per day, she talked to her supervisor and arranged for $400 payment for the day to hold the case and call back next business day to settle the remaining amount. I fell for the scam, it looked so real. I gave $400 and after that I called friends and google research and like and found it to be a fraud. I also lodged a police complaint. I repent now, I hope that others do not do the stupid thing I did. Always remember that no body can arrest you just like that. Any govt agency will have to have detailed case built up before arresting you. Definitely some written communication has to happen before legal action is initiated.
Similar call from someone from tax litigation with claims that I needed to call back with my attorney as there was issues with my tax. Call came when we were not home including on a Saturday- which was very strange ( IRS works the bankers hours:). Also no mail but only call made me suspicious. I googled and stumbled into this forum. Glad for all that everyone posted..This call also comes from Belvedere, CA.
