Received a text message from (415) 726-2734 stating "Austin Christensen answered 'Has this friend lied to you?' about you http://bit.ly/1/SPPWS to see what they said." This is not a friend to me it's my grandson so I know it's some kind of scam!
Received a text saying something about Hailey Jones and then listing a website link. Looked scammy! Didn't click it. Came here and others said the same thing.
I got a text from this phone number saying that one of my friends from my contacts had answered a question about me and to click the link to find out their answer. Being the stupid child I am, I clicked on the link but it led to nothing and didn't even appear in my history. I replied back to the text message, thinking it was just another one of my friends trying to prank me, but then I got another text from the number thanking me for subscribing to whatever it was and it said to text back STOP if I wanted to unsubscribe, so I replied STOP. They texted back saying I had successfully unsubscribed and I would never receive any more calls or texts from that number. But about two minutes later, I received another text saying thank you for resubscribing when I actually hadn't resubscribed. I texted back STOP again but I had a feeling it wouldn't work so I blocked the number from my phone and I haven't received any more messages since. Hopefully I won't receive any more in the future. This is definitely a scam and I was suspicious as soon as I received it. Still a little worried that me clicking the link may have caused a virus but hopefully not. Also kind of worried that this number has access to my contacts and possibly more. DO NOT click the link or answer the text/call, and just block the number. Seems to be working just fine for me.
The first thing I would do is download an antivirus checker to your phone and run a scan. Also enable it to keep running to protect you in the future. You can probably get them for free, I downloaded one from Google Play which was free. Also I would immediately notify your cell carrier about this as they might try to charge you through them claiming that you subscribed to whatever the scam of the day is. You will then have problems getting it off your bill if you do not call them right away.
