This same message appears on several different numbers-- I counted at least 5.. This is only one of them. When I block one, another appears like magic a few days later. The recorded message starts out "Due to the recent increase in injury and death..." Blah Blah Blah!!! Scam to scare seniors into buying a medical alert system. I can do that on my own without their help, and through legitimate channels. Anyway, thanks for letting me vent here!
I had a voice mail message last night from this number and the name of "Smith" from the IRS for an investigation. I called it back this morning and got a gentlemen that was very hard to understand. You could tell he was reading from a typed script. He said that the IRS has determined that we have not paid the amount we owe and they have filed a case against our name and if we did not respond or take action we could be arrested within a couple hours. I questioned him who he was from and he said the investigation division of the IRS. And when he asked if we file jointly, I asked him why he didn't already know that if he was from the IRS. I asked to talk to his supervisor or manager and he asked if our lawyer was already working on this case. I said, what case? And he repeated the exact script again. I said, why would the IRS call me on the phone and how do I know that this is legit and the "real IRS" and not a scam..... and he hung up !!
