Got exact msg on my answering machine this morning, 1/27/15, at 9:29 a.m. Male with low-class British English accent, who pronounces "advise" as "adwise" (East Indian, yes). "Hi. My name is Steve Martin and I'm calling you regarding an enforcement action executed by the US Treasury intending your serious attention. Ignoring this will be an intentional second attempt to avoid an initial(?) appearance before a magistrate judge or a grand jury for a federal criminal offense. My number is 415-829-9429. I repeat, 415-829-9429. I advise ("v" pronounced as "w") you to cooperate with us and help us to help you. Thank you." (all spoken in a threatening and aggressive tone). I called police dispatch, then the Idaho AG's office, then the FTC (filed a report), then Idaho Senator Risch's office, who recommended a I file a report at www.TIGTA.gov (Treasury Inspector General Tax Administration) assuming this is the IRS scam, altho I didn't speak with the caller or call him back. I filed an on-line report, because TIGTA's voicemail was full from complaints about this latest scam. Dexknows told me that the number was a landline in San Francisco served by MPower Comm, which has been bought by Telepacific, whom I called and got a promise that they would check out the carrier, but they assumed that it is a spoofed number. I called my phone carrier, but they won't release the records w/o a police subpoena, so I called Dispatch again, and the police won't pursue an investigation unless I suffered a monetary loss or a PII (personal identifying info) loss, which I didn't. Interesting that Wikipedia reports a spoofing scandal involving "Pacific Telecommunications" in 2013 (sound like TelePacific to you?). So I'm at a dead end, but did call Senator Risch's office back to reiterate that I don't enjoy being threatened in the privacy of my own home by a foreign national. (The fraud expert at TelePacific says "everybody knows" these calls are from India...)
Got a message from (415) 829-9429. I did not get all of the message but the latter part said demanded I contact this person to avoid going before a magistrate and grand jury for Federal charges.
First of all, WE DO NOT HAVE MAGISTRATES IN THE UNITED STATES! THIS IS NOT ENGLAND YOU DUMB A------SES!! I suggest you all get a f----ng life!! Do not call me or anybody else anymore!!!!
I got a message from this phone number today, too. Very threatening voice that left the message. They had an obviously thick accent and my husband called them back asking if their call was a scam and they hung up.
