!!! THIS IS A SCAM !!! The caller states they are with the FBI and that you owe money to the IRS for unpaid back taxes. The caller will have a very subtle accent. Caller ID shows that the call is from the D.C. area and would seem to back the caller's claim but a quick review of the phone number's NPA-NXX shows that the number originates in the San Francisco area. DO NOT provide these people with ANY information. According to the IRS's own web site the IRS will not call regarding owed back taxes. Initial contact is usually via certified mail. The IRS will not ask for credit card or other payment information over the phone. If you have not received a packet via certified mail and you receive a call like this it is likely a scam. Call and report the incident to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration at 1-800-366-4484.

"Whoever falsely assumes or pretends to be an officer or employee acting under the authority of the United States or any department, agency or officer thereof, and acts as such, or in such pretended character demands or obtains any money, paper, document, or thing of value, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than three years, or both."
