Got several calls about handling debt and lowering interest rate. Asked them not to call again. Received 3 more calls, no one on line. called back...busy signal.
I didn't answer and they left no message. When I called back there was a recording saying, "Thanks for calling. The survey you were called for has now finished. If you would like to be removed from our list for future calls, please press 9." Yeah right.
This was one of the most clever automated scam calls I've ever received -- gotta give 'em credit for that!
When I picked up, it sounded like a real person: "Hello?... Oh, you're there! Sorry, I was having a problem with my headset." Then she goes into some overly excited spiel about how "you recently stayed at one of our amazing resorts" (she didn't say which or who "our" was, which immediately got my spider-senses tingling), "and we wanted to enter you into a chance to stay at one of our FABULOUS resorts in sunny Orlando, Florida." No one talks like this in real life!
I was more amused than annoyed at this point. I expected a yes-or-no question, and that's exactly what I got: "So, can you confirm that you're over the age of 18, and I'll transfer you to an agent?" My response was silence, to which I got, "I'm sorry, I didn't hear you; can you repeat?"
Then I decided to have some fun: "Are you a real person?"
And it was prepared for that! The response was laughter, followed by "Of course I'm a real person."
I asked one more killer follow-up: "What's your name?"
Apparently it's the sound of hanging up, 'cause that's the next thing that happened.
So, uh, maybe you do want to pick up on this number, just for the comedy value...
