I received a call from the same number. Some Indian woman was on the line, she said that she was from Telus and my number has won a free phone in their random draw. I told her that I was not a Telus subscriber. So, she said then it must be a mistake and hung up.
Called claimed they were from the promotional department of Rogers as I am a Rogers customer and told me they were willing to give away a free Nokia phone. The caller asked me how many phones I had under my name currently.
Sensing this was a scam caller, I asked the caller that if he works in the promotional department of Rogers, he should have access to the first name on the account. He was unable to give it to me and instead responded that he's just given a list of random numbers to call.
I gave him a few choice expletives and told him never to call me again.
After a quick 411.ca web search I noted that the phone call originated from a Telus registered number.
I received the same phone call form the same number.
Wasn't wise enough to realize what was going on. Phoned rogers immediately afterwards, and they forwarded me to the loss prevention to install extra security features on my account to diffuse any potential threat, as well as forwarded on report to law enforcement. Call them if you were subject to this as well.
I got a call from these guys a week ago. Same deal except they claimed to be from Bell. I caught on when said they asked for my account details and would not tell me anything when I said they should know it all. They tried having me give a postal code, then tried to pass off their lookup of canada post information as proof they were bell. Yesterday I also got a call from 1-416-855-1212 from a guy who claimed to be the person I spoke to the first time, this time wanting help with a house purchase deal. BEWARE!!!
I just got a call from this number on my home line. It was some Indian woman on the other line claiming to offer home cleaning services. We just informed them that we are on the do-not call list and told them they were going to be reported and hung up -- and then reported them to the DNC. Googling the number brought me here and now I know it's a scam. Wonderful. Hopefully something can be done about these dinks.
