These bottom-feeding boiler room operations are well-known for trying to pry merchants away from the large credit card processors like Moneris, Global Payments etc (who are bad enough!), promising low discount rates, then burying in the fine print all sorts of hidden costs.
I like to tell the caller to run along and find a real job that they wouldn't be ashamed to tell their mother about.

I got a phonecall from this number and initially ignored it, but decided to pick up on a whim (I was curious since the area code is of Toronto's). The person on the other side of the phone asked for the owner of my cellphone (I obviously answered that it was me), and then proceeded to politely ask, "Oh, okay. Do you still use a credit card, ma'am?"
I answered with a no, saying that I'm thirteen and therefore can't have one, much less use one. He proceeded to ask for what type of credit card... I hung up right after. Really, it's just another scam call. If you get a phonecall from this person, ignore it. Seriously.
Here is a solution to this problems. Works for us.
There is NO stopping all the telemarketers out there. Here is what is going on.
1. There are phone bots, that all it does is call numbers looking for live phone numbers. If the number answers either with you picking up or your voice mail, then it logs that number and moves on to the next number.
2. With all these 'live numbers' they are then sold to the telemarketers who then with their automatic dialers, will then be calling you etc.
3. If you try to call the number that they are calling you from, then you get no where because they do not want to be bothered as we are with 100 of calls.
So you are either getting the telemarketers or the phone bots calling you. Getting mad or calling to be taken off their phone list is a waste of time.
SO OUR SOLUTION, as we are in an office, is we answer the first time, and as soon as we know its a bot, or a telemarketer, we save the phone number in our phone as a Z meaning that it is a telemarketer, etc.
Then when the next call comes in it shows that it is a Z and we just ignore it.
Right now, we have over 40 - Z phone numbers on our log, and we no longer get bothered but we are adding at least 2 a day to the Z list.
Give up ... find a way to just know that they will never stop but there is a way for you to know in advance that they are calling and to just ignore them.
