Today, (August 29, 2012)I recieved a (ACTUALLY REAL) Montecito Bank and Trust check for $3,875.00 to deposit into my bank account.
Then I must send a personal check to a tax agent that THEY would direct me to in the amount of $1,875. (for taxes)
They would then FedEx me a check for the remainder of the $125k, in the amount of $121,125.00!
LUCKILY I FOUND OUT IT'S A SCAM BEFORE I DID IT!
Here's where they get you!!!
After you send them a personal check for $1,875.00 your bank notifies you that the check you deposited for $3,875.00 is a BAD CHECK and YOU STILL MUST MAKE GOOD ON THE PERSONAL CHECK YOU WROTE FOR $1,875.00 BECAUSE THE BAD GUYS CASHED YOUR CHECK!
My husband received the same letter this two days ago. At first, we were really excited until he started telling me the details in the letter. They said he won 86,000 in some shoppers sweepstakes from shopping at Wal-mart, etc...Bull shi*! The name on the check was Nova Research Inc, in Buellton, CA. The bank on the check was Montecito Bank & Trust. We took it to a bank Saturday and the bank said the check was real. The BBB of Alabama said that it was legit when read the letter but to call them back on Monday (today) so that they could check it out some more. I was still skeptical especially after seeing this post and similar post about this company. They wanted you to call them BEFORE you deposited the check and then FED-EX them the non-resident taxes in the amount of $1900. I knew it was too good to be true, though, so thanks for your posts! We will not be taken in this scam!! Beware!!!!!
I received the same check and call the number receiving the same information shared by Becky. I said this sounds too good to be true so sir I need to research this before I deposit the check. However, if you can tell me where your local bank is located and I can go directly there to cash it. He placed me on hold and returned saying, just deposit the check into your account and contact us back once the check is deposited for forward instruction. In today economy, most people are not giving free money away.... BE SOBER MINDED!!! There are SCAMMERS waiting for someone to take the bait to RIP THEM OFF..
