Same thing happened to us. We just sent email saying we were not interested, then searched the internet and found these posts (boy! did we call it right). My wife and I were feeling uncertain from the beginning. We always require the student to complete an application form before we consider hosting them. They never completed the application form, we asked for it in several emails over the past month, when they never sent it, we started to become more concerned. This morning we got an email telling us that a cheque has been sent to us, but their friend made a mistake and sent too much (that was the final straw). The only difference between the story we heard and what others are saying is that mother's name is Pijing Da, daughter's name is Ning, and their friend who sends the cheque is Owen Logan, who is supposed to be Toronto.
I received same message. The deaf mother name is Shuchun Bingwen, daughter Ning and contact in Toronto,Owen Logan. Ridiculous people. Hope they will get caught.
