Same thing - Live in AK and I'm dealing with these jokers!
Watch your phone bills - It could be a simple connect re-connect scam to stick you with the long distance charge. It could be a cover and misdirect call to avoid a trace and that could by why the call is routed through Canada, then over-seas too Alaska, and to wherever and then whoever to a final destination! At the minimum, it’s possible a money scam operating by a few bums on there own time at a legit calling agency for hire.
A worse case scenario could be the same connect re-connect scam to avoid detection while placing calls discussing illegal issues. If you think about it that would explain the use of a different country…The laws are different concerning tracing, blocking, and other areas that are needed for a trace or tap. Then a satellite is used for the overseas part to break up any landline or a direct connection. It’s just like working on the net and routing through multiple ISP’s in the US, via satellites, and other countries to make tracing the original address difficult.
I would think at a minimum due to the nature of the calls “originating” in the lower 48 (?) then through a different country, and then overseas, and finally where that one of our many law enforcement agencies interested…Who know what the real deal is? I would think that one of our agencies would be interested in these calls due to their routing locations. I was 21 years military and I also worked maritime federal law enforcement and this makes me think about what could be really going on!
I would like to see at least one of the following take a look into the calls…The NSA, FBI, DEA, or the justice department would be interested. There could someone with no good intent using or working on a system for drug or worse communication. Once you or your machine has picked up the phone a connection has been made…Then they could have found a way to change lines as soon as the connection is established and then drop you, the original connection, while maintaining an another open line. Kind of like a conference call but it cuts you out and opens your line again to incoming and outgoing calls again. It’s a just a theory but a very possible theory…
This number called me several times but no one ever spoke. Tried callling back but like the other person states, no one there - no rings. I hate fake calls.
