The person knew my real name. They texted me "Heyy ------" and then when I asked who they were, they waited about 40 minutes and then said that their battery was running low.
They only texted me twice from this number, but the same exact thing happened about a month ago from another number. I'm convinced that this is the same person, but does anyone know how they're finding out who our real names are?
They sent a text and I don't know anyone at that number. I had all my contacts deleted the last time I asked someone who they were. My advice: don't risk it cuz it coulda been worse

There are a lot of possibilities. One which comes to mind is that you have installed one of the many apps which is stealing information from your phone and sending it "back home". Another is that you are the victim of one of the many data leaks resulting from a system break-in or physical equipment theft, or from outsourcing data processing overseas to places like India.
In any case, you may be able to make them go away. Read my article here: http://800notes.com/forum/ta-6dbfa49432dde2d/ ... xt-message-spam
I would also suggest carefully going through your apps and removing those you don't really need. Free apps are the most likely to be spyware. And no, Apple doesn't do nearly enough to keep such apps from getting on the app store. It appears they are more focused on keeping out apps that might compete with their marketing strategies.
