Most of the legal advice I’m seeing posted on these sites is useless. Don’t bother to call the FTC. They won’t do anything to help you. If you want to spend the money, you can buy any one of a number of devices on the internet that will block up to at least 80 different phone numbers from calling you. These are electronic devices, they are NOT services from a phone service provider. You will pay an average of about 100 dollars for one of these. There is NO monthly fee of any sort, all you you pay is the $100. I assure you that they work, they are worth every cent you pay, and will keep all these weirdos from calling you more than once. Google "call blocking devices" if you want more info. If you don't want to spend the hundred dollars, then there's not a whole lot you can do, but there is one thing that might help. Some of the older autodialing programs these bozos use still haven't been updated to take care of this particular tactic. Go on the internet and download a WAV file of the Special Information Tone. This is that annoying series of 3 notes that you hear if a number has been disconnected. Set your answering machine to answer after two rings(this is very important) and then record that tone as your answering message. If you are lucky, and the autodial program they are using is an older one, then it will automatically remove your phone number from the list of numbers that it's dialing because it will think it's reached a disconnected number. This only works about 1/3 of the time but it's worth a try if you don't want to spend any money.
A recording from this number 423-343-4426 called and told me I would be getting a free system of some sort, alarm system that would be free to all senior citizens. I have a security system and am smart enough to know that NOTHING is free!!!!!!! I didn't press any numbers, just listened. After the call, I tried to call the number, but got NOTHING!!!! I suspect this is a scam.
