I also found this phone number on Indeed and called. Funny, they only accept a Cashier's check or Money order, no credit cards. That was a big flag to me, so I went on line and found out they were not a business of any kind. Are these numbers not able to be traced (800) 518-8472???
Called about an opportunity for medical billing at home, as a highly skilled medical billing professional who is out of work. Asked to pay $199 up front for the software and to start out with 50 claims to process. Was promised refund opportunities and was given the address to a company named City National Billing. Attempted to search the organization on the BBB but could not find anything - this was my first red flag. I then looked up the phone number and saw the rest of this information that corroborates my experience. I am glad that I did not waste 200 dollars and did my homework before sending them a dime. Their number was also found on a job board and I initially called 800-414-9804. DO NOT send them anything. This is obviously a scam.
I too saw an ad in my local newspaper for a receptionist in a local OB/GYN office and to call 800-414-9804. when I called that number I listened to a recording about a "work from home" opportunity processing claims $5-$8 each depending on length (not a receptionist in a local OB/GYN office) and the software was $199 and if after 90 days you don't like it or the "work from home" is not for you you will be reimbursed the $199. I was further instructed to leave name and number and someone would call me back. A few hours later I received a call from 424-230-1428 with Alan or Aaron Carmichael (I was on my cell phone and couldn't make out the first name) he asked about my experience, repeated what the recording said and informed me that if I remained with the company for 6 months then the company (City National Billing, 1201 24th Street, Bakersfield, CA) would give me back the $199. He said I'd be great at the job, I'd catch on fast, they would email me 50 assignments each Monday and I had to have them completed and emailed back NTL midnight the following Sunday, I could ask for more, as many as I liked as long as I have them completed and returned by midnight on Sunday. I've never worked from home before and saw this as a God send because I could be here to put my 25 yr old disabled son on the bus to his adult day care and be here to get him off without having to hiring a personal assistant for him like we've done in the past (my husband, his dad is in the military and currently deployed) so I just didn't see the RED flags:(
On this past Friday 28 April, I purchased the $199 money order from my bank filled it out and put it in my mailbox for my postman to pick up on Saturday 29 April. I called Carmichael and told him that I had mailed the payment, he said great and that he would call me when they received my payment and to let me know that the software was being mailed to me.
It wasn't until I told my daughter that she could make extra money (she's working part time and finishing up her Master's Degree) by working for these people. She called the number I gave her, Aaron(she asked him "what's your first name...you never told me") called her back from the same phone number and told her the same things he told me. She told me that she had a reverse phone number lookup app on her phone and she was going to look up the number. The number was registered under a different name and when she goggled it we were led to this site where we saw evidence of this being a long running scam. I felt so stupid but not too stupid to not put my mistake and story out here for others. Plus I learned something new...to do a phone number search and you know the best most memorable lessons and the ones we learn from.
I called the post office thinking I could track down my envelope but that was a no-go. I went to my bank this morning and was able to cancel the money order for the small price of $36, I would have paid $200 just to keep Carmichael from getting a penny of my money.
I've since reported the job posting to my local newspaper and within an hour the posting was removed, I called our police department and forwarded the posting to their fraud department and I've reported them to the BBB.
I've been doing a lot of woulda, coulda, shoulda over the last 2 days and I just hope to prevent someone else from making the same mistake I made. If only I had googled the cell number I would have been led to this site. Thank you all for posting.
