An ad for furniture was responded to by this number. I didn't give out information, but curious as to how this might work as a scam. He said he is an oceanographer on the sea and could only send a check with $50 added to hold my item. He would send a 'shipping agent' for pick up once the check has cleared. He wants name and address.... he can get that info online, so I am not sure how the scam works yet. checking here to find out.
This is how the scam works: the "shipping agent" is fake, just the same scammer using a different persona. The check is also fake. The scammer wants you to cash the check and send the difference to him or the so-called "shipper" via Western Union or a Green Dot/Moneypak/Vanilla card, before the check bounces and you're stuck with an overdrawn account.
