Similar story. Connected with a girl from POF. Noticed something a little fishy about her profile pics but she asked to text. Texted a little bit and "she" (Ashley) would use really bad grammar and wanted information about me to which I didn't share much other than what was on my profile. Just having a clean conversation no sexting. She then tells me she is "17 but will be 18 in two weeks." Then after I didn't respond to her random "hey", she sent me an unsolicited message with a naked pic several hours later. Immediately I deleted the text message (forgot to block the number first) and I did not respond. I know the law and didn't want to have anything to do with this illegal distribution. I then received a call from Agent Blake Austen from the Internet Crimes Against Children Taskforce (ICAC) who left a message on my phone. The message was super crackly and I could barely hear him. Tried calling back and there was no answer. Received a call the following morning and again the line was crackly. Asked for him to call me on a better line, which he did, but blocked the number. He went on to explain that a phone was found by the teacher (ironic because she said that she was homeschooled) and said he wanted to de-escalate the situation. [His number was from the same general area as where the girl said she lived. He spoke really fast and not clearly.] He told me the call would be recorded and wanted my information like full name. I told him that I didn't do anything wrong but told him I should probably get a lawyer as I am an upstanding person and I know I did nothing wrong. I then said "I want to make sure that this is legit. Can I call you at the main ICAC line and speak with you?" He then told me that he will just let the case move forward and proceeded to hang up on me.
I then contacted ICAC in Los Angeles and asked if there was an Agent Blake Austen. "There is no Agent Austen here. Maybe you should call Redondo Beach PD." I said thanks and called Redondo PD. Spoke with a nice guy there and said I felt like there was a scam being run. I told him I didn't do anything wrong yet was contacted by an "Agent Austen" and asked if there was anyone there with that name? He said no. Also he said that an agent wouldn't hang up on you and their number would be real. Said that if you committed a crime they would most likely show up at your front door not be calling you. That was the long story and just wanted to help a brother out if this happened to them. My lesson learned is to never give out my cell number, block any girl under 18 no matter if it is a clean conversation, and block any girl that sounds weird.
