I also keep getting this call. They tell me I owe them money but cant not produce a contract or anything in writing. They just tell me to be at the court house the next day because they are going to file on me. When I agree to go with my attorney, they will not give me a time to be there. They want my bank account #, social security number etc etc. When I refused, they quit calling me for a few months but now the calls are starting again. WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE??? Always an accent of some kind.
These people have way too much information on me in fact I reported them to the attorney generals office and apparently they get info from the internet. In my case they are saying I had an online payday loan. I do know my account was compromised a couple of years ago and the account was closed. They state they are from the US Justice Department, so for those of you interested here is what the US Justice Department DOES do and this was taken directly from their website. They are NOT from this department
•the prosecution of criminal cases brought by the Federal Government;
•the prosecution and defense of civil cases in which the United States is a party; and
•the collection of debts owed the Federal Government which are administratively uncollectible
So when one of these obviously non-english speaking people call you tell them you will not deal with them, that you don't deal with 3rd party collectors. Tell them you will only deal with the original creditor and that you are reporting them to the California attorney generals office (or whatever area code they are calling from). Further DO NOT PAY THEM ANYTHING they tried to tell me that my "original loan" which I never had was $300 and that with "fines and costs" I now owed them $5400. That will be a cold day in hell. When I asked for a physical address and told them I wanted to send a "debt verification" letter they refused and told me I was going to be arrested. You cannot be arrested for an unsecured debt as it is not a criminal act to owe a debt, if it is legit you can however be civilly sued in small claims court but it would not be by these clowns. If the debt was legit these idiots have either purchased info or stolen it after the orginal creditor wrote it off as a charge off. Any court action or suing would be done by the originally creditor. So my best advice is don't even give them the time of day and tell them they will be arrested if they continue to harass you.
Yes, these people keep calling me and leaving messages on my cell and work phones in broken english. Do not speak to them and don't send any money as this is a long running scam from information stolen from Payday loans.
