Got a call from this number, so I called them back, and I played along. Ask if I had a lawyer, I said and provided with a fake name. He hang up on me. So I called again, asking why he hanged up, he hang up again. So I called again, he block my number. So I use another number and called again, gave my name, etc... he hang up again, So I called again, using the same number, he block that number too... I did it several times with different number, same result... he block it... till i next time...
HORRIBLE connection. Loud call-center obviously in India. Got disconnected just as she was about to read me a copy of a letter I allegedly received back in January. Super suspicious. I looked up the phone number on google during the disconnect. Found this page.
When she called back, I asked for proof that she was who she said. "Shirley Jones", in her best Indian accent. I laughed and she through out a 'badge number'... really??!! The IRS audit team carry badges now??!! I chuckled and she got very upset. She threatened me with the arrest again but this time instead of 24 hours I was assured I only had 1 hour.
So these people called me this afternoon. I usually don't answer, but I did this time. I knew it was a scam, so i played along. I used false information of course, and nothing too personal. They asked if i was married, age, city and state. I lied about all, and he said "Thank you for providing information that matches our account." He then asked for my card number to make sure it really was me. I then told him that I provided false information to him, and I knew it was a scam. He then started cussing me out, and laughing at me. I hung up. I have since gotten 3 phone calls from them.
Thank you for posting this. I got identical message. I DO owe taxes but keep in close contact with my agent. He says they don't leave recorded messages like this and to always ignore. But they are still super scary when you first hear them.
