Just got a call from 1-425-296-1450. The answering machine picked it up and a robotic female voice told me the IRS has a lawsuit against me. I immediately spotted BS and hit the stop button. The IRS will not dial your phone number and leave a recorded message about a lawsuit. They love paper trails and will contact you through the mail. This is clearly a phishing scam and they only need 1% of the people they robo dial to fall for it and wire them money.
Well, I got a garbled message about a lawsuit being filed. No case number, no attorney name, nothing. So, I called the number back, and a woman with a heavy Pakistani or Indian accent said, "Officer ? (I couldn't understand the name)". She said that my daughter- who hasn't worked more than three months since 2008- owed $2500 in back taxes for 2009-2014. I asked her how an unemployed person could owe taxes, especially that amount. She just kept repeating herself. I asked for a supervisor, so a man with a similar accent gets on the phone and says that he's going to send the IRS police (not agents, POLICE) to arrest her, seize her bank accounts (she has none), seize all her properties (she has none, not even a car), etc. I told him all this, and mentioned that due to her being mentally ill, I am handling all her business and he still wanted to talk to her. She doesn't live with me, but I sure didn't give him her address. He kept threatening, insisted that the 425 number was a toll-free number, and that he was sending someone to arrest her tonight. Good luck with that; she's not answering her phone right now, she doesn't live with me. Trust me- that's one call he doesn't want to make, anyway. I kept telling these people she had no income, has had no income for years, owns nothing, and still they kept threatening arrest.
Just got a call from 1-425-296-1450. Caller ID read Out of Area so I let the answering machine picked it up and it was a recorded female voice saying that IRS was filing a lawsuit against me. Totally a scam of some sort.
