someone keeps trying to call me from this number trying to collect a debt and I have asked them to prove documents about collecting the debt but there are none and I think they are just trying to scam money off of me and I would really like for these people to leave me alone.

They called to say that my neighbor, who hardly ever speaks to me (etc..) had used me as a "reference." They then claimed that they were trying to get a message to her and would I please take a message for her and give it to her. When I asked as to who they were, they claimed to be a group called "Sound Services." When I asked what they did, they made a comment that since I did not want to relay the message to the neighbor, they saw no reason to explain what they did. I saw no reason to continue the conversation. My suspicion is that it may be a debt collector ( I see no reason to be involved in my neighbor's personal affairs) or that the whole thing is fishy.
