“Renton       WA”, no message left of course.

Even though 800notes appears to be one of the larger (if not the largest) DBs of these phone numbers out there, I find myself starting new pages (of first-time uses of new numbers) increasingly often.  It appears that as people are starting to use call blockers of capacities of 1200-1500 or more numbers, that the spammers are re-programming their dialers to write totally random numbers into the “caller ID” field, never using the same one twice.  They must know that people who have invested in those blockers have heard all their scripts so many times they know them by heart; the spammers seem to have cast off the last pretense that they actually expect to sell something and are in the business only to annoy and harass, and consider an angry tirade from you a “win.”  This is supported by the increasingly numerous reports here on 800notes of the bullies responding to your polite request to remove your number from their list with either (1) laughter, (2) a curt “No,” and/or (3) actually coming out and boasting that they will keep calling you back until you “pay them to stop.” (yeah, right)

Witness also the fact that they have been known to write the names and numbers of prior uncooperative victims into the “caller ID” field – and then presumably sit back and watch the hatred heaped upon the innocent.

It is only a matter of time before they hack into the NSA database (or wait for the next Ed Snowden to come along), retrieve the numbers YOU have called (e.g. of your family and friends, or businesses you have chosen to deal with) and write THOSE numbers into the “caller ID” field as they ring your phone -- what can you do then?

What we need is a REAL caller-ID field that can only show the actual originating number, even if from overseas.  If the caller wants to block his number, then say “blocked” (as it can now).  If it’s a corporation that doesn’t want to reveal the desk number of the employee calling you, then say something like “corporate” -- the caller could give the appropriate call-back number in his message.  And if it’s an internet telephony call (the excuse apparently for providing the ability to freely make up Caller-ID data), say “VoIP” and show the (true) IP address and the (true) DNS results for that IP.  But under no circumstances can a phone number be written into it.

this is a company calling on a regular basis asking if I am a home-owner w/a septic system. I've asked them repeatedly not to call me at my place of work - how they got the number is beyond me. I finally told the lady that next time I was reporting them for harassment.

After I hang up on the first caller, I get another call from a gentleman that ask me if I need more of the septic stuff to eat the bacteria - I also hang up on him and have asked him to stop calling.

They don't quit!
