Yet another fake caller. I don't see how the FFC can follow up when we don't even know the number they called from. It should be illegal to spoof a phone number. Of course, how can it ever be controlled? Sometimes I really don't appreciate all this "modern" technology.
yet another fake phone number from maryland calling to offer me lower rates for utilities and such.. that they havent a clue about. since noone but the actual utility can lower rates. nor authorize them to actually help u ...... scammers I HAD STARTEL LCC. DO THIS TO ME A FEW WEEKS AGO.
I responded to these folks to ask them to talk with their supervisor. I was asked why and I told them that I wanted them to stop calling me. They informed me that they would remove my number from their list but I would be charged $100 to have my number removed. To this I responded that they could not charge me for taking my number off of their list since they were harassing me by calling me. In addition, they had no way to charge me since I did not agree to the charge nor did I provide them with credit card information to use for the charge. Following this they hung up. Now I have to watch my telephone bill and my credit cards to see if they somehow found a way to charge me for removing my number from a robocall list.
Spam call telling me it was my last chance and final notice to lower my interest rates on my credit cards. No company name addressed on phone. Told me to press 1 to continue. Also said I needed to act now because it was in regards to stimulus.
Hang up! Don't answer.
Tried to call number back and it said number not in service.
Same story story around 01:315 PM. Spoofed Caller ID, so probably not from Maryland. The FTC will not take any action without a "significant" number of complaints. They will not say what makes a "significant" number of complaints. I suggest you do the following:
(1) file a complaint at
https://complaints.donotcall.gov/complaint/complaintcheck.aspx?panel=2
(2) email or snailmail your congress-persons (Representatives and Senators) about the FTC's failure to enforce the Do-Not-Call list. Mention Donald S. Clark, Secretary of the Commission. This is the guy whose name appears on correspondence claiming they don't have enough complaints. (If you have a Republican, forget this step, their not interested in our problems or interested in accomplishing anything useful).
(3) call the FTC, Donald S. Clark, Secretary of the Commission at 1-202-326-2514.
I waited on the line until I got a real person. Asked them on whose behalf they were calling. Silence. But,um, ma'am, what do you mean? What company are you calling from? Oh, well, we're from your Visa and MasterCard card member services. Really? We don't have a Visa or MasterCard! Silence. Remove us from your calling list. SLAM!!!
