I just got a call from this number from "Steve," a professional fundraiser for the Fraternal Order of Police. "Steve" is a computer clever enough to respond to most ordinary questions. If pressed, he'll even tell you that his company keeps around 90% of every donation, with only 10% or so going to the FOP. If you ask him to recite pi to as many digits as he can, he gets confused and ends the conversation. Apparently this is legal in Maryland, but it's about as close to a scam as you can get and stay within the law.
Caller was identified only as Annapolis MD. Called about 9 PM on Sunday and left no message - it's just a scam call like all the others hoping to cheat some well intentioned victim out of money. I'm guessing they weren't calling to wish a happy Father's Day.
