Repeated calls (3x) on my "call waiting" line while I was using the phone.
4th call, caller claimed to be soliciting funds for my local police department.
Local FOP denies that they make fund-raising calls by phone.
Whoever it is, falsely claims to represent the FOP. Bad news.
Yes, this is the phony FOP charity scam. Do not answer their calls, and if you do...don't ever give them any information or money. My son-in-law is a Baltimore County cop. He said the real FOP never solicits donations in this manner. These are nothing but lying, scamming thieves. Don't fall prey to their phony scam.
If you don't already have a call blocking device or a phone system with call blocking capabilities, you need to invest in one. Call blockers start at around $40, and phone systems start at around $100 depending on how many extension phones you have or need. These devices work! My call blocker doesn't allow any robo-callers nor calls without and phone number CID info. Outside of those scumbags, any other scammer gets one opportunity to leave a VM message. Unknown phone number, no VM message, not an important call, and is immediately "blacklisted" on my call blocker. They'll never bother me again from that number. Unfortunately, many of these scammers have multiple numbers they use. For example, this is now the 31st number used by the FOP scammers. No matter, my blocker can take up to 9,999 numbers, and in a little more than a year and a half, I've only used up a little over 600 numbers, 47 of which are "whitelisted" family and friends. Their calls come through.
