The scammer probably wants to to advertise the dog, collect the money, and send it to him (afte s/he sent you some money for the ad), right? However, the check or MO they send you will bounce, and you get stuck.
If the person knows how to advertise a cat, they should know how to advertise a dog. Both "cat" and "dog" have only three letters, so even the most illiterate of scammers should be able to handle that.
I posted an ad on craigslist looking for a kitten. The number texted me stating that their landlord is making them get rid of all their pets. They offered me a free 11 week-old savannah cat, but they needed a favor. They wanted me to list an ad from my account ad for english bulldogs
