Got a call at work on my pesonal cell. I thought at first they were soliciting, then they told me they had a warrant for my arrest. To which I replied, OK, come get me. Curiousity got the better of me. I called back, and got an answering machine with no identifiying name and number. Left a brief message. Called back again, and got the same guy. He went into his scam, stating he was coming to get me, 3-5 years in jail, since I had purchased pharmaceuticals online (which I had ten years ago). Scared me! Tried to get him to slow down, wrote down all the information. Talked to my corporate attorney in my shaking state, who immediately called the DEA. They checked it out, no warrants on me. The fake DEA guy called back while the real DEA guy was on the phone. We gave him the phone number, but did not answer the call. He called back a few minutes later. The attorney talked to him, and the guy said, "it's important that she calls me back". I am drinking a glass of red wine, relaxing, and hope this will be a distant memory in a few days. My first reaction was correct, I'm too old for this [***]!! I hate being duped and vulnerable. dammit...they called on my personal cell phone.
Don't take any calls from these people. It's a SCAM. He claims to be a DEA Agent. DEA would never call you and demand money. This scam has been going around for 1.5 years.
Received a call from a man (Nigerian accent) claiming to be DEA Special Agent Anthony Williams regarding diet pills medicine being purchased from another country over the intrawebs, which never happened to begin with Google search did pull up agent Williams but after a few moments on the phone the man is clearly not a DEA agent. Obviously trying to get info, most likely for credit scam through intimidation by threatening to throw someone in jail. [***] had erroneous info but was def fishing.
I just received the same voice mail from supposed DEA Agent Anthony Williams, calling from 510-725-4757. Before calling him, I did research on line and discovered the scam. I left a vm at the govt. hotline # regarding the voice mail. I decided to call the jerk back on my cell phone and blocked my # so he couldn't get my caller i.d. I told him I was returning his call, gave a fake name, and told him he should know I am a police officer. He insisted he was a DEA agent. I asked if he was based in Oakland. He said San Francisco. I laughed and told him he had the wrong area code for San Francisco. I asked for the main number of his DEA office so I could call him and be transferred to him properly. He got really angry, said something strange and I hung up. I sure hope that I'm not bothered by him again, and I hope these posts prevent others from being harrassed, threatened and/or scammed out of their money!!
I also received the same call as you decribed. After researching I called the San Francisco DEA office and they told me immediately that this was a scam. I have also reported the incident. When I didn't answer repeated calls from the 510 number, I then received a call from the 443 number.
