I received a call this morning at 7:33 am, it was from what sounded like a young lady with an oriental accent, from China or Korea.
This woman said she received an error message from my computer and that she will assist me in fixing the problem. When I asked who she wanted to speak with, she gave my name.
Unless my wife as requested something herself before asking me, and this is unlikely as she usually asked me when she experienced a computer problem (by the way she is the only one using a Windows computer), I don't see how and for what reason they will call us. I know that my wife was unable to access her HOTMAIL account at many +++ occasions and she had to reset her password by sending a code to my own email etc. Maybe it is related but I never received a call from Windows before so it is weird and smell fishy.
The reason I suspected Windows as a possible real service call was because this lady was talking so fast that I couldn't get the name of the company, after asking her to repeat many times, it ressemble Windows, and when I suggested that name she said yes.
I postponed any interaction with that person saying that I was in the middle of my sleep, she actually woke me up. She is suppose to call back later, I will update this post later and I will attempt to get a phone number to call them, hopefully from the police station fraud department, if they believe it is a scam attempt, they might just be more happy to offer her to enter one of their own computer to track down their server and locate them.
I was able to listen to a lot of background noise when she was talking to me and she was definitely calling from a call centre as I could listen to many other people talking in the background.
Meanwhile be very very careful and do not let anyone assist you remotely to fix a computer problem, they might be able to take control of everything, your identity, your password and credit card numbers if you do online transaction and they can also find information like passport number if you have emailed this to a travel agent, your social insurance number, they will be able to find how you access your government related Website for pension, Unemployment benefit, Social Assistance, bank login information and password to access the account, imagine if while inside the bank account they send Interact transfer to themselves, I prefer not thinking about it.... BE WISE... never met you in person before ? never personally send you a request to call me ? then you should not care about what ''the computer'' send to those people, DON'T ANSWER any questions and DON'T PROVIDE any code, password that can help someone to break into your precious personal informations.
I just received a call from this number, background clearly indicated it was a call center environment. Male with accent claimed to be calling from Microsoft. Claimed that they had been receiving error messages from my computer over the past couple of days and much like Yvon's post above, he claimed if I could go and turn on my computer he could quickly help me. I asked him where he was calling from - New York city was the response and yes, just like Serena's post, the call is coming from Brossard, QC - Edwin Morphet.
I told him I did not believe he was calling from Microsoft and hung up.
He called back!!! Again, claiming to be from Microsoft. He said he could give me my computer ID that only I and Microsoft would have, he was trying to help me due to the error messages they had received over the past few days. I asked him to give me the specific error messages..... silence. I asked again, no response. Said, "hello?" Nothing.
I hung up and guess what, he hasn't called back!

received a call this afternoon - a male voice sounding foreign said he was from Microsoft . This is the second time in a month this call has come. Each time I replied saying " This is a scam do not call me again" then I hung up
