Your congressman is behind the phone scams. He or she has the ability to stop the annoying calls but chooses not to. The perpetrators of these hoaxes rely on a technology called VOIP or "Voice Over IP. It is what allows users to make calls via their internet service providers. Because calls are initiated from a computer the caller has the ability to alter the information associated with originating phone number. They can make the call appear to come from any phone whatsoever. There is a way to prevent this from happening. Interenet service providers could easily check the number assigned to the caller against what is in the packet information and if they don't match drop the call. Instead they choose not to because they are relying heavily on this revenue stream. We need congress to force them to do so with legislation. Call your congressman every time you get one of these calls and let them know you're not happy.
Yeah, BUT you STILL have to GET the call - and suffer through the ringing - in order to block it afterward.
We have TWO call blockers. One, with 20 slots is FULL; the other with about 100 is already HALF FULL since January '014. Pretty soon we will have to get a THIRD one - or play a guessing game as to which number we can delete to open up a space. Doesn't seem to matter much; the SCAMMER CRIMINALS only seem to use a number once or twice per our calls and then switch to another SPOOFED number. Just like playing WHACK-A-MOLE, but less fun.
For Instance, we've gotten about SIX calls from "SVC" ALL from DIFFERENT numbers, and they are still at it. All five PREVIOUS one were blocked. We also were NOT AT HOME for this last call, so, I'll bet our number registered as 'good' so now we'll get even MORE of these calls.
There's GOT to be a better solution.
Came home from a Labor Day Family Reunion to find no less then FIVE nuisance calls on our CID; NONE of which left messages. One of them even came in on SUNDAY. Just TROLLING for valid numbers.
To fight these scum you have to take action yourself.....the do not call list is a joke (the FCC and congressional politicians have proven to be lapdogs for big business telemarketers and is now moving to give them and big media priority fast lane access to the internet.....the FCC chairman is (surprise) a former telecom lobbyist. If you do not have a call blocking feature (or run out of space), do yourself a favor and get a call blocker, and just plug it in to your phone line.....it will be the best money you ever spent.....lots of them out there, check Amazon,Google and Fleabay. I got a device called Pro Call Blocker last year and it only costs around $50. It stores up to 1500 or so numbers and uses caller ID. Just scroll thru the incoming call list and hit the blacklist button for the spam ones and presto, no more calls from this number (you can also manually enter numbers to block, entire area codes or all out of area numbers). It logs all calls in or out. If you get this one, be sure to get the latest version (last I looked it was 2.2). There is also another similar device called T-lock blocker which looks similar and came out late last year. Phone line is pretty quiet now as there are no repeat calls (although a lot of these spammers have multiple numbers so you have to block each one as they come in). Lots and lots of others out there that may work better or are cheaper, so get yourself a device and post back a review of its effectiveness to help the rest of the anti-spam community here and other sites.........
This site is simply a sounding board for people to vent and inform others of scam telemarketing calls they receive. There is no authority associated with the 800notes site to stop these callers. In order for people to collectively stop these type calls they must act together - and TAKE ACTION! It doesn’t do any good to complain about a caller on this board unless you then take the next step and do something about it! The caller ID number is usually a ‘Spoof Number” – A Fake! Never, never, ever engage the caller or call back the number. The false robocallers will then capture your number as a ‘live one’ and use it over and over and sell it to other scammers. The same goes if it prompts you to ‘press a key’ to ‘opt out’ of their calling lists, or be transferred to someone, as this will only ‘log’ your number as a working one and make it ripe for future calls and to be sold to other scam companies as well.
The best option is simply to hang up, keep your own list of calling numbers with dates and times and report them to the FCC below. There is space on their complaint form to list several calling dates and times of a repeat caller.
The DO NOT CALL list is worthless, they do not act on anything, just build a database of numbers.
In order to do something to help stop these type calls, everyone - EVERYONE needs to file an online complaint directly with the FCC. If they receive enough complaints about a particular number - they will act on it. Do it today and pass along the info:
