Who called from 4692028764

Miss M.
This person called an ex family member and asked if they could get in touch with me. It was important because I was facing felony fraud charges. I called this number and it is answered Dean Tate and Associates (not found in google) I asked who was filing fraud charges against me, I was told I don't have that information (she never told me a company name), that's when she said that someone used my social to take out a loan and verified an address that I hadn't lived at in 6 years. I told her I actually no longer live in that state. So she talked super fast throwing all this legal stuff at me, even told me my bank from back then was being called as a witness. I informed her the only loans I had were 2 payday loans from about that long ago that I never took care of. Less than 500.00 each I don't remember the exact amount. One of those closed down after being flooded several times. She told me at 2 pm that I had until 4 pm to send 1,998.32 (in restitution) through fast bill pay to a company called United Mediation Group (which google found in Cali) She almost had me...I called her and told her I found someone to help me pay this. While I was waiting for the person to come a guy called (it showed up on caller ID as a police dept.) Said he was calling from the ____ police dept to verify that I was going to take care of this as I said I was (and even mentioned Whittaker by name) "or do I need to go ahead and submit the warrant and extradition papers" So I call my friend and said the police just called me and what was said?! And they said wait, hold on, call that police dept. right now. So I did and I was informed nobody called me. So I told them what was going on and I was informed that payday loans are civil matters, they can take you to court and possibly even garnish you. I also asked the officer how did they make it show up that the call came from their Dept. and I was told they can punch in any number they want to show up. (and of course any police dept. number is listed all over the country) I was like "oh" So then I called both payday loan places. The one still there told me they still had my check and acct. Told me I could pay 75.00 to settle it and would send me my old check or shred it (which I intend to do asap). I called the other and they told me my acct had been turned over to a private collection agency called United Debt Holdings(google found in Co.) I call them and you can only proceed if you have acct. number or put in your social, I hung up. I am not that stupid. By the way, when I spoke to Whittaker about sending the money I asked her if the amount would cover both loans and she said yes. So that was a lie since one of them still had my acct and check. So I was told by an officer.....I can't tell you what to do but if it were me I wouldn't send the money and I wouldn't think any more of it. All I can say was the scare tactic worked. But they got no money. After the deadline, I got 2 calls, answered neither. Whittaker left a voicemail saying she was sending the paperwork for the restitution (the warrant I guess) and good luck in court.  I came across this page during researching all these places. So I'm sharing...sounds like I was almost scammed. Hope so, sure don't want felony charges!

First off.  Being in ordinary civil debt is NOT a crime and you cannot be arrested for it. We DO NOT have debtors prisons in the US.  Secondly if someone is impersonating a public agency, this is a crime in itself and  you should report it as such.

Absolutely never send money to anyone claiming a debt against you in the absence of a debt validation letter send by US mail.  E-mail no good.

Ignore and block these numbers.
________________________

Please read and memorize the following:

Just because someone on the phone calling you says you owe a debt does not mean you actually owe it.

If a voice on the telephone claims you owe a debt:

1.    Demand the person give you his or her name, company name, and address
2.     Demand a debt validation letter by US mail.  E-mail no good.
3.    Do not pay  the collection agent or anyone else a  dime until the debt is validated

Of course they won’t do this, no scammer ever will, so simply ignore them and block their calls.

If they are bothering you, report them:

http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0149-debt-collection (Threatening civil proceedings with no intent to follow through, or threatening criminal process in order to collect a civil debt is a  violation of the Federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.)  The same goes for endless telephone harassment

Also contact your local attorney general

If they continue to bother you,  and you know you do not owe any money, tell them that you know this is  a debt scam and that you are making a complaint to the police for extortion.  Once you get a copy of the police report and they call you again , just read out the  file number and the name of the PD or Sheriff’s office involved.   Tell them you’ll be glad to send a copy to them at whatever address the jack***es are working out of now.

You'll probably have to yell at them and talk over them.
You have to get tuff with these people because,  being akin to thugs, brute force is (metaphorically speaking),  the only thing they understand.

Thank You for responding. And thank you for the information. I do owe money for one that was sent to collection for sure. But I don't know who has the account. The business told me it went to United Debt Holdings. (Colorado on google) She told me I had to pay United Mediation Group (California on Google) when I send the fast pay. She was calling Dean Tate Associates (how call was answered, and not found on google). So no clue where the actual debt is. Would gladly pay it off or settle it if I had the right company.

>> I don't know who has the account.  <<

It is the responsibility of the supposed collector to snailmail you a "Validation Notice", within 5 days of first contact, with specific information about the debt, including their identification.  Continue reading for more information ...

A phone call, email or text message from a supposed debt collector is not legally sufficient evidence of debt.

The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) includes statements such as this:

Every collector must send you a written “validation notice” telling you how much money you owe within five days after they first contact you. This notice also must include the name of the creditor to whom you owe the money, and how to proceed if you don’t think you owe the money.   ["Written" means snailmailed - US Mail ... not emailed or texted]

Source:
https://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0149-debt-collection

Therefore, if that caller wants you to pay immediately, before you get the written validation notice via snailmail, or if the caller wants payment via Green Dot, MoneyGram, Western Union, prepaid gift card or other untraceable means, then the call is definitely not legitimate.

IF you wish to communicate with the supposed collector / creditor, visit  the following page, for example "Action Letters" to snailmail:
http://www.consumerfinance.gov/blog/debtcollection/

If you KNOW you owe no money, or believe the call was from a fake debt collector, please take the time to read this:

Thanks Slim. Yep that's exactly what she told me I had to do was fast bill pay at Walmart. So 1/25/2017 was the first I had heard. And I called her after she left a message with someone else. She claimed they sent letter back then (2011, 2012). I lived at the same address 6 years and put in change of address, I would have got it if it was truly sent.
