They called and said they had warrents for my husbands arrest unless we pay restitution for bad checks that we didnt write on an account that we havent had for years. If we dont pay the restitution by 430 today he will b arrested and spend a mandatory 120 days in jail. When my husband called them back and told them he knew this was a scam the man said that when he goes to jail he will be sleeping with his wife! This is just disgusting!

Extortion Scam Related to Delinquent Payday Loans

Washington, D.C.
December 07, 2010  FBI National Press Office
(202) 324-3691

The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.

According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.

The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim’s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims’ relatives, friends, and employers.

My son received a phone call from 469-291-8617, and the person stated if they didn't hear from me in 30 min that today at noon I would be processed with 2 felony fraud charges.  I call the number and he came up with some sort of debt from 2009 which was taken cared of back then. But i was a little confused. When i asked questions he wouldn't answer them. When i told him I know nothing of felony fraud charges against me and that i am down at the police station often and my father is a retired police officer he made threats that i would go to jail for 120 days and called me a scum bag and then hung up. This sounds like the same as what callers got from 469-291-8620
