Just called the number back and a guy answered "hello" then after letting him know I received a call he went on with his donation for state troopers thing. Told him I worked for a local PD and if I donated it would be through them and to please take my number off of their list. He said he would do so and we ended the call. He was very nice about it. I do not trust anyone calling asking for money.
Just got a call from this almost local number. There was no message. 3 minutes later, I got another call from another phone number in a nearby city with no message. Yesterday there were about 9 calls from different numbers spread around the city. I believe these are spoofed numbers on the calls. At this frequency, they're harassing.
All you have to do is contact the Texas State Troopers Association and you will find that they NEVER call you soliciting for funds. My dad did this once and then he got calls from all over everywhere. So I called and was told directly from the horse's mouth that they do not solicit funds in this way. I'm sure it's most likely that way in other states also. Please be careful when getting these types of calls. Do not trust ANY of them. If you want to donate, you contact them, not the other way around. :)
