YES! Only they answered the phone compliance and fraud, but they said the same thing fraudulent check charges for an outstanding debt not even for me but for my husband! A legal collection agency cannot give out the information they gave to me without knowing if I am even his wife?! They didn't ask anything to confirm who I was before they gave me ALL kinds of "account" info on my husband. The number is from Texas, the company they wanted me to send money to is in NY and the supposed charges are in Maryland. Nothing about this made any sense except to scare me into sending money before I did any research, which luckily I did.
Had this number call a relative and then three days later same number but last four digits were 3013 stating check fraud allegations and announced name of my State and that I have failed to respond to them within 10 days. THEY NEVER CALLED UNTIL TUESDAY OF THIS WEEK AND IT IS NOW THURSDAY! (There is no 10 day rule on anything in my State unless there were an open case file which there is not) AND - they didn't even call me the first time nor has anything been received in writing of this so-called debt nor is there an open court file. The relative did not give out any information. This is one of several different companies and has jumped from one so-called collection agency to another for two years using various tactics on a debt that is washed out. There is no check fraud. They are attempting to collect a so-called debt and want to try to gain access to your bank account to receive a settlement payment and if they can not they state you have committed fraud against them. Since when is it legal to let just anyone take your bank account information and withdraw money whenever they want to when you do not authorize it? We are NOT talking about a true garnishment action - these are phone calls out of the blue and they are not even associated with any open court case (of which I have NONE). Also remember - most States have a requirement that any debt collector must be licensed to do business in certain States....they do not show as licensed in my State.
