I got same message today saying I have a unpaid check and they have my drivers liecense number and to call this number or they will file on me at my address. They show up here they will not leave. It's Scam.
SCAM SCAM SCAM!! Same as other comments left. 262 806 4406 leaves message regarding a claim against you by a merchant regarding a returned note and it is related to ur drivers license number, directs you to call 469-708-0254 (if u do, BLOCK UR NUMBER, u will get a message stating they wont accept blocked calls. Oh well, even a bill collector will answer a blocked call because they want to work with you. These scammers just want to rip off the right person who will fall into their trap. The more they talk legal you will see the less they know. A friend who owns a collection company says to document every time they call and the conversation if you have one, if it continues the original collector whom you have paid any debt off with will accompany you to court if it gets that far. Especially if your debt is more than 6 years old and even if it is not paid but written off. These jerks DO NOT want to spend ANY money, they want your money. This is a scam. See comments above. Don't be anybody's fool, do your homework! Bill collectors must send a WRITTEN notice via mail first and even then you have 30 days to respond.
They may say to call 469-708-0254, but the caller ID says the call came from Portfolio Associates, a notoriously persistent collection agency. If you have any debts, whether old or new, know that they are just trying to conceal their identity. If you don't have any defaulted debts, they may have called the wrong number or are trying to reach the person who had your number before you or possibly a relative or other contact. Leaves a bogus message...and when you call them up they tell you even more BS about filing a lawsuit against you.
I mentioned to the agent that they have to first show the debt is valid.. wait for my reply...then come to CA to file..which is $350.00..for just a $400.00 ohone bill.
This company keeps calling and leaving a message for the previous owner of my cell phone number. I have had this number for five weeks now. I have spoken to people at the company twice and told them he no longer has this number. They say that a local merchant is suing him over a returned item (it sounds like they are saying milk).
