First I got a call last week at my job. The caller asked a co-worker to be transferred to me, which he was. When I answered the phone, the caller, Ron Slade, acted very confused and said that he had asked to speak with my direct supervisor. He said that as a courtesy, since he had been mistakenly put in direct contact with me, he can give me one hour's time to contact the acting attorney on the matter to discuss an alternative location in which I am to be served legal papers by a uniformed officer. I called 657-859-4567 and spoke with a Paul Allen. Instead of asking for an alternate location, he said that I can wire money to an account to "voluntarily" take care of the debt with a settlement. He said that I can name a figure and he would, while I waited on the phone, bring this settlement figure to "the company." At this point in time, I was scared and gave him a figure. He kept me on the line and came back and said that they would accept, but that I had to wire money within an hour or the settlement was void. After consulting with a friend, who advised me not to send any money, I did not comply with "the agreement." Paul Allen called my direct work line and left a voicemail that he would retract the settlement and tell the "processor" to procee with issuing the court documents. I called him back later and, long story short, asked for something in writing to ensure that this transaction was legitimate. I received nothing but another voicemail from him the following day, stating that he would have a uniformed officer deliver the legal papers to my job on Monday. Today, instead of that, another call from Ron Slade came to my place of employment. He was transferred to my manager's voicemail. She informed me of this and I told her what was going on. We completed a call to Ron Slade, who answered the phone as "Sheriff's dispatch." After my manager refused to give him any information and told him that documents could not be delivered to our building and that she would not transfer his call to my direct line, he hung up on her. He immediately called my cell phone at that point and left a voicemail on my direct line at work. He said that I can call him back directly to give an alternate address for the papers to be served or call Paul Allen. I called him back and informed him that we can set up a different address for the documents to be delivered. He did not want to take this address from me and continued to try to get me to call Paul Allen. I told him that this is what happened previously and no one wanted that information. I was only asked to wire money. He continued speaking over me and stating that I could call Paul Allen within 30 minutes as, "it sounded like there was miscommunication." I said that there was not and I wanted something in writing. I told him that I would give him and alternate address and set up an appointment for the papers to be served. He said that I would need to be on record that I would be at the alternate address between 8-4pm. He also said that I would have to call Paul Allen to do this. I asked him why he was calling from an unpublished number (469-893-5660) in Texas, when he is representing the sheriff in Hennepin County, MN. He started to talk over me again and insisted that I needed to call Paul Allen. Almost immediately after this call, Paul Allen called my cell phone. After much research and looking into the comments that everyone has written here and other sites, I am certain that this is a scam. However, I do not know how to make them stop calling my job and speaking to managers and coworkers. Has anyone had the same situation in which they will not stop calling your employer?
