If you don't recognize number and/or name, don't answer. If at all possible, have a phone with caller ID and voicemail. If you know someone who doesn't, PLEASE tell them to be very distrustful and not to give out any personal info.
Called me twice over a 90 day period, wanting me to verify personal info. Saying I owe Chase bank over $6000. Telling me I am about to be sued and have my car (which I haven't owned in 10 years) re-possessed. Very rude when I refuse to verify anything and tell them to contact my lawyer.
Tricked me into committing to pay off (what I found out later) a 4000 plus dollar debt that belonged to my husband 28 years ago. When I realized that I was being duped, I called them back and told them that I would not pay them anything and they proceeded to get "very" rude and hung up on me.

I got a call today telling me i owed $11,000.00 on a DISCOVER card and that they were taking me to court. I have never owned a Discover card, and none of my credit reports have anything about this supposed account or collection. I hung up the phone and blocked the number. NEVER admit to a debt or provide any personal information. If there is a legitimate claim, you will get letters from the debt collection agency and it will appear on your credit report. The fact that this "debt" does not appear on my credit reports is a clear indication that this is a scam.
