Called told me I would be arrested if I didn't come up with money for a debt. When asked what the debt was from.wouldn't give me number to call or send me out any proof if debt. Told me the debtor wants nothing to do with me. Wants their money. What?? Claims to be attorney but when asked what the attorney name was wouldn't give it only his name of David Seward.
This is so obviously a scam! Debt is civil, not criminal, so no, you're NOT going to be arrested, even if you did default on a loan. Per the FDCPA (Fair Debt Collection Practices Act) you should NOT pay any caller who refuses to MAIL - do not accept email or fax - proof of debt/proof your caller can collect said debt. Refusal to mail this within five days of their first call to you is a violation of federal law. They don't want to mail this to you? Doesn't matter if the creditor "wants nothing to do with" you. That's a new one! Refusing to give you the original creditor name, refusal to give the company name, claiming to be an attorney but won't give you the attorney name and bar # - definitely a scammer. Please do report your caller to the FTC, FBI and your state's Attorney General.
