Tony from "The Publishers" called, saying he wanted to remove 4 months off my monthly subscription services, since he knew I was dissatisfied. I do not have any magazine subscriptions with this company, nor am I paying a monthly fee. This call was a complete SCAM. I want this company shut down and prosecuted.

I got a call today, 3/13/14, but I didn't answer. I keep the ringer off, and I have disconnected my answering machine. This is how much these various companies have taken over the phone system. It's worth a try going to the FTC site and registering a complaint, but it's doubtful anything much will come of it. The telemarketers and info gathers have found ways to get around the law. Some "claim" to be doing a survey, as I'm sure you've had calls like that, others still have some tenuous connection to a company you do, or have done, business with in the last year or so. They often route calls from outside the U.S., making tracing the calls more difficult, and of course, some have numerous numbers, or they switch numbers often to stay ahead of those trying to trace them. Some just want to gather info. If you answer personally, or if you in some way respond, by calling back, or even have voice mail or an answering machine, they then know they have an active number. They compile lists and then sell the info. Check this out, if interested, you may have to copy/paste:
Took me like three weeks to figure it out.. but it's from a marketing company called Millenium Marketing. Some guy kept calling so I finally picked up. This guy tells me I was getting free magazines and if I didn't cancel I would get billed for five years worth. He asks me for my credit card number to cancel. I'm not giving someone my credit card when 1) I didn't order the magazines and 2) he's calling ME!? To cancel!? made no sense so I hung up after he kept insisting on getting my card to cancel or threatening I'd be charged for five years of magazines. I called the magazines direct and they couldn't cancel since I supposedly "ordered" through an agent. What agent!? Finally ONE nice lady at Better Homes and Gardens gave me a clearing house number who cancelled them super easily 800-258-3350 and let me know Millenium Marketing was the agent that placed the order. Their real number (not what shows up on caller ID starting with 480) is 800-456-6565 and they are on ripoff report. Don't give them your info!
received 2 calls within half an hour from this number. the telemarketers getting smart by changing their numbers. calls for magazines an male thing. are you serious? we're even on do not call list and still get calls from telemarkters. people need to do whatever they have to to deal with this even if filing a complaint with phone company. once notified of do not call, they can get in trouble if they continue to call you.
